Sybil Robinson

Sybil Dee Tackett Robinson, 90, of Little Rock, passed away on December 1, 2015. She was born December 8, 1924 in Quitman, Arkansas. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Robinson Wooley; grandson, Charles Justin Wooley; granddaughter, Katherine Wooley Dempster (John); and great-grandson, Henry Dempster. She will be forever cherished by a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, as well as nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and grand-nephews who will miss her love, wit and zest for life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Robinson, her father, Willie Tackett, mother, Adula Tackett, and brothers, Wendell Tackett and Fred Tackett.

After graduating from Centerville High School at the age of 17, she began teaching in the high school where she coached basketball. Her birthday was the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed and this was a way that she could contribute to her community and the United States.

At the end of World War II, she enrolled at Beebe Junior College. Sybil followed Francis by transferring to Arkansas State Teacher's College (now University of Central Arkansas), where she earned a BA. During that time Sybil married Francis L. Robinson. During Francis' tenure as Principal at Quitman High School, Sybil would substitute at the high school until their daughter, Angela, was born.

Moving to Little Rock, Sybil moved into the Arkansas School for the Blind and made a home for her family. She also substituted there until Angela began first grade at Pulaski Heights Elementary. The next year she began teaching second grade at Pulaski Heights where she touched many students' lives for twenty years.

Not being satisfied with staying at home, she started working at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as Student Aide Advisor. In that position she was responsible for helping students get student aid, scholarships, and assigning students to the work study program.

Once Sybil decided to retire, she then spent her time playing golf and participating in tournaments in the women's division and the senior women's division. She was an active member of Rebsamen's Ladies Golf Association as well as Western Hills Country Club Ladies Golf association.

Sybil was a member of Alpha Theta, Teacher's Honor Fraternity, University of Arkansas at Little Rock Faculty Wives Club 1956 - 1980, and founding member of Phi Mu on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
