Susan "Sue" Dean Shirley

Susan “Sue” Dean Shirley, age 72, of Amity, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

She was born on February 22, 1950, in Hot Springs, the daughter of Tillman William Dean and Gertrude Gracie Rasberry Dean.  On May 13, 1967, she was married to the love of her life, Jerry Shirley, who preceded her in death on November 8, 2005.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Lou Travis; her brother, Kenneth Dean; her sister-in-law, Christina Dean; two nephews, Derek Dean and Elliott Dean; and her niece, Donna Renae Travis.

Sue enjoyed going to the casinos and her favorite trips were when she was getting to spend time with her “casino buddy” Kathy Johnson.  The two of them made many memorable trips, with lots of laughter and fun times.  Sue was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who loved and cherished her family with all her heart.  She will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Tillman “Tim” and Marilyn Shirley of Amity, Melanie and David Burns of Amity and Jerrie Sue Crouch of Hot Springs; six grandchildren and their spouses,  Tristan Shirley, Andy (Kylie) Staggs; Stacy Shirley, Damian (Drew) Powell; Timothy (Jessica) Powell and Jade Burns; five great-grandchildren, Matt, Kailynn, Jax, Kaylee and Skielynn; her brother, Billy Dean of Corpus Christi, Texas; her brother-in-law, Monroe Travis of Glenwood; her loving Shirley family; and numerous nieces, nephew, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 13, 2023, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, 209 North Third Street, Glenwood, AR 71943.

Interment will be in the Jones Cemetery in Amity.

Pallbearers will be Tristan Shirley, Andy Staggs, Kylie Fox, Stacy Shirley, Damian Powell, Jade Burns and Timothy Powell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Dean, David Dean, Danny Dean, David Burns, Seth Howell, Lewis Travis, and the nurses and staff of Hospice Home Care.
