Steve Weaver returned to the nature that he loved and protected on March 6, 2023. Steve’s career and passion were spent protecting the beauty of the environment for current & future generations. As Chief Legal Counsel of the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology (ADPC&E) he worked with the Arkansas legislature, state and federal agencies, the Arkansas Environmental Federation and concerned citizens to enforce environmental statutes and regulations. Steve was very proud of the many pieces of ground-breaking environmental legislation and regulation that he was instrumental in promulgating. Notable among his accomplishments was the years-long effort to clean up the Vertac, Inc. superfund site in Jacksonville, AR.
After ADPC&E, he joined the project to destroy chemical weapons at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He worked to ensure the regulatory compliance of the project until it was completed and the incinerator and containment structures were dismantled and destroyed.
For many years in addition to his other activities, Steve taught environment law and environmental science at Webster University. He loved helping students learn about the environment and how to improve it.
Steve loved politics, trivia and card games with friends, a friendly argument with compatriots, and everything about Arkansas (from history, law, geology, geography, lawmakers, law breakers, poetry, writers...)
Steve was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his son, Chris Weaver; his daughter, Brande Brandon and her husband, Sean; former wife, Gwen Pinkard, mother of Chris; and Lisa Weaver, former wife and life long partner in crime.
A celebration of his life will be held at Next Level Events located inside Historic Union Station, in the Genesis II Room from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, May 19, 2023.
Arrangements entrusted to Smith Little Rock Funeral Home.
