Stell Callaway

Stell Ray Callaway, 96, of Hot Springs, Arkansas went peacefully to be with his Lord Thursday, April 17, 2014. He was born March 6, 1918 to the late Charlie and Nancy Callaway of Arkadelphia. After attending Business College, Stell served in the US Navy during World War II, and later spent many happy years as Service Manager of Delamar Motor Company in Arkadelphia. Upon retirement he served as Mayor of Arkadelphia and, in his late 70's and 80's, enjoyed being a greeter at the Arkadelphia Wal-Mart. He moved to Hot Springs 9 years ago to be nearer his family.
Stell is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Jodie Jean Strong Callaway, sisters Clara Bea Matasarin and Verna Dokey, and brothers Foy, LC, and Spud. He leaves behind his younger brother Charles Travis and his wife Ilene of VA, daughter Cynthia Bailey and husband Paul of Hot Springs, daughter Polly Ferguson and husband Rick of MT, grandchildren Allison and Brad Dierlam of WA, John and Tess Bailey of AZ, Katherine Frio of LA, Bonnie and Aaron Anderson  of Perrin, great-grandchildren Carter, Maya, Ella, Justice, Kimber, Aida and Amelia, along with many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
Stell was a lifelong member of FirstUnited Methodist Church in Arkadelphia where he taught Sunday School. He loved those Razorbacks, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. His last years were sent at Country Club Village in Hot Springs and more recently at Brookfield Assisted Living where he considered the wonderful staff and residents as his extended family. Special thanks go to the staff at Brookfield, Dr. Mark Lefler and Family Medicine Clinic, and Dr. Edward Warren and his staff for their outstanding attention and care.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 17th at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens near Arkadelphia. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Arkadelphia or Hot Springs.
