Stan Parsons, age 56, of Athens, died Friday, October 21, 2011. He was born on November 27, 1954 in Nashville, the son of Emery Odell Parsons and Myrtle Irene Pate Parsons. On May 24, 1980, he was married to Phyllis Bissell. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was employed as a forestry contractor and also as an automotive body repairman. A member of the Athens Church of Christ, he loved hunting, fishing and car racing. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Parsons of Athens; his son, Eric Wayne Parsons of Athens; his brother, Charles Parsons of Athens; his brother-in-law, Ronney Bissell of Newhope; his sister-in-law, Linda Dallas of Nashville; ten nieces and nephews; several cousins; and many friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in the Athens Church of Christ with Bobby Quinn officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Bissell Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Ronney Bissell, Isidro Guerra, Gene Parsons, David Smith, Gary Parsons, Pablo "Pee Wee" Frias, Richard Harner and Nick Fowler. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry and Belva Pinkerton, David Smith, Debbie Bissell Frias, Glen Davis, Billy Burgess, James Manasco, Gwen Bissell Smith, Vernon Pinkerton, David Neal and the entire Neal family, members of the Athens Church of Christ, Dr. Ross Bandy, Dr. Joe Howe, nurses and staff of St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center and the Cardiac Rehab Team.
