It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Skylar Elizabeth Overman on September 30, 2024, at the age of 18. Born on February 13, 2006, in Little Rock, AR. From the beginning, it was clear that her path would be unique. Despite the challenges posed by her special needs, Skylar faced life with a determination that was truly inspiring. Her smile, so full of pure joy and warmth, had the power to light up a room and lift the spirits of everyone she encountered. Skylar’s mom made sure she saw the world and got to have the most amazing experiences. She was a dancer with I Can! Dance for the past 14 years, she participated in pageants with Arkansas Angel’s, she’s completed marathons and triathlons, is an author of her very own book, was an extra in a movie, she helped advocate for children at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. and in Arkansas, and she made an impact on every person that had the pleasure of getting to know her.
Skylar’s journey was not without its challenges. But through each obstacle, she showed us what true resilience looks like. She approached every day with a bravery and a strength that belied her vulnerabilities. The challenges that Skylar faced only seemed to amplify the love and the strength of character that she possessed.
Throughout her life, Skylar was supported and uplifted by the incredible community around her. The teachers, caregivers, nurses and friends who were part of her journey played a significant role in her life. They saw beyond her special needs to the vibrant, loving person she was, helping her to reach her full potential and to live a life filled with joy and purpose.
Skylar shared a deep and meaningful bond with her family, who were her greatest supporters and advocates. The love and support she received from her family were pivotal in shaping the person she became. Her family’s dedication to her well-being and happiness was a beautiful testament to the power of unconditional love and the strength of family ties. Skylar shared the most incredible bond with her mom who dedicated her life to her care and being her biggest advocate. One of the most special things she got to check off her bucket list was becoming a big sister. Skylar and Sawyer’s relationship wasn’t the typical brother and sister relationship but being part of their lives, you could see their bond and their love for each other. Sawyer is so proud of his sister and talked about her often with everyone he met and Skylar got so much joy out of watching him play sports. She will always be his biggest cheerleader and will be rooting him on and watching over him.
“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” – 2 Corinthians 9:15
Skylar is survived by her loving parents, Lindsey and Clint; her brother, Sawyer. Skylar was a cherished granddaughter of George and Linda Stone, Ken Holman, Mark and Donna Overman, Janice Crawford, and Sue Grisham. She also leaves behind aunts and uncles who adored her dearly. Among them are Courtney and Sy Robinson and Jimmy and Tracey Overman, and a host of cousins who shared in her joyful spirit. Which include Kylie and Abby Robinson and Bryce and Brylee Overman. She also has many great aunts, uncles and a host of other family and friends who love her dearly. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Beth Holman.
