Sidney H. Wood,73, lost his fight with the unforgiving disease, ALS, on August 13, 2023, in Little Rock. Born on January 26, 1950, Sid was the beloved child of the late George P. Wood and Nina Belle (Perry) Wood, from Grenada, MS.
A Razorback by proxy but a Bulldog at heart, Sid had a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. He served in the Air National Guard in Tennessee for 13 dedicated years, a testament to his commitment and selflessness. His career in Financial and Banking Information Services stretched 33 years that took his family to Finland and the U.K.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sid reveled in pursuing his passions outside of work. As a member of Friends of the Ouachita Trail (https://friendsoftheouachita.org), he found solace amid nature’s embrace. Gardening allowed him to nurture life and watch beauty bloom. Those who knew Sid knew tennis was a huge part of his life and that a good match invigorated his
competitive spirit and fueled his love for the sport.
One of Sid’s greatest joys was being a grandfather. From imparting wisdom to igniting their imaginations through simple tools like hammers and nails, he cherished every moment spent with each grandchild: Kate, Max, Davis, Graham, and Jake.
In an altruistic act, Sid generously donated his organs through the Arkansas Organ Recovery Association (www.arora.org), giving others the precious gift of life.
Sid’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Susan Wood; his sons, Philip B. Wood (Manda) of Little Rock and Brian P. Wood (Blair) of Bentonville. He leaves behind his grandchildren, who will carry his love and teachings throughout their lives. Sid also survived by his nephew, George Wood III; and nieces, Cynthia Wood, Michelle Ferguson, sister in law, Cindy Cannon and Brock Kent. He will also be remembered by his many tennis and church friends and for his love of his neighborhood, Otter Creek.
A Memorial Service honoring Sid’s journey will take place Friday, September 8, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church located at 4823 Woodlawn Dr in Little Rock, AR 72205. Following the service, a warm reception will provide an opportunity for friends and family to reminisce and enjoy each other’s company.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the ALS Association of Arkansas (als.org/arkansas) at 1200 W Walnut St #2406-08, Rogers, AR 72756.
