Sidney Andrew “Andy” Herren III passed away August 16, 2022 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born January 16, 1938, in Dumas, Arkansas. Andy grew up in Portland, Arkansas. As a little boy he was everywhere, riding his horse, Smokey, fishing, playing with his two sisters and cousins.
Andy loved sports. He attended Dermott High, and he was in the backfield on the football team. He attended the University of Houston for one year before returning to Arkansas and attending UAM where he was a running back.
Andy joined the Navy in 1959. He was on an Aircraft Carrier. He served four years, mostly in the Philippines. He married Doreen Walker in Seattle, Washington and raised two wonderful sons, Scott Aubrey Herren and Jay Lindsey Herren. Andy was a self-taught golfer. He had just turned 50 when he tried qualifying for the senior PGA tour. His tournaments were in Melbourne, Florida, Oklahoma City, and Galveston, Texas where he missed the cut by one or two points. He played with John Daly, but his greatest game was at War Memorial where he played 18 holes and shot 12 birdies and 6 pars.
Andy is preceded in death by his grandparents, S.A. Herren (Gordie) and C.O. Borland (Europia); parents, S.A. Herren, Jr. (Clementine); sons, Scott Herren and Jay Herren; and his stepson, David Burge.
Andy is survived by his loving, blended family, wife, Jo Ann Burge-Herren; stepsons, Danny Burge and Dale Burge; stepdaughter, Debbie Kay Richard (Bob), his first wife, Doreen Herren; granddaughter, Brittany Herren Kenaga (Brett); grandson, Josh Herren (Anna); step granddaughters; Jordon Klosterman (Blake) and Ellie Walton (Britt); sisters, Mary Eleanor Henderson (Bill) and Glenda Herren; his grandchildren from the Burge family, Jennifer Michaels (William), Daniel Burge Jr. (Ashley), Stephanie Trudeau (Dylan), Brooklyn Hart Burge, Johnny McDougal (Brittany), Dana Jo Cauldwell (CJ); great grandchildren, Cole Thackeray, Logan Burge, Gavin Burge; step grandchildren, Bentley, Lance, Peyton and Reese Michaels; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Axle.
Visitation will be 1:00PM-3:00PM Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107).
