Shirley Elizabeth Starks, (Honey) 89, of Sherwood was born on March 19, 1933, in Middlesex, England. She peacefully passed from this life into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on June 29th, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cleveland Starks of Sherwood, Arkansas; parents, Leonard and Pamela Young; sisters, Margaret Hook, Joan Short, and Evelyn Lansley, all of England. She is survived by two sisters, Pamela Choate of Blevins, Arkansas, Phyllis White of Great Falls, Montana; two sons, Patrick Starks (Ailsa), Philip Starks (Susan); three daughters, Lori Thomas (Allen), Julie Harper, (Clint), Melissa Higginbotham, (Butch), 16 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved and an incredibly special niece, Elizabeth Warrick of Great Falls, Montana, who was like another daughter.
She was a long-time member of Victory Baptist Church in Sherwood, Arkansas. During her 54 years of service to her Lord, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and a quartet. She had an angelic alto voice. These were just a few of her many gifts she shared with others. In her later years she loved to volunteer at the Call Mall that benefits foster families and foster children of Arkansas. During her short stay at Sherwood Nursing & Rehab Center, she never stopped sharing her love of the Lord, and spreading the gospel. It became her ministry.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly called her Honey. She became Honey to all who knew and loved her.
Our thanks go to Sherwood Nursing & Rehab Center and Baptist Hospice for their care during her stay.
Funeral Services will be at Victory Baptist Church, 10000 Brockington Road, Sherwood, Arkansas on Tuesday, July 5, with visitation from 12:30-1:30, funeral service from 1:30-2:30 with burial following at Rest Hills at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Victory Baptist Church for the Call Mall.
