Shirley M. Barr of Little Rock was reunited in eternity with her husband, Wilber; parents, eight siblings and sons, Joey, and Daniel on the evening of October 24, 2021, at the age of 96. Born in Hayes, Kansas on July 29, 1925, Shirley was the last of nine children born to Frank and Inez (Dansel) Grove. The family moved to Missouri when Shirley was young where she attended school and graduated from Waverly High School. She received her degree as a Registered Nurse in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Nursing was more a calling for Shirley than a job. She spent several years as the Chief of Nursing on the Neurology floor at St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock, before taking a position as the Chief Nurse at the School for the Deaf. In 1987, Mrs. Barr was named Arkansas School Nurse of the year. Shirley was a wonderful, loving, kind and generous wife, mother, and friend to many who will always be remembered for her love of piano music, her unwavering Christian Faith and her love and interest in all things political.
She is survived by one son, David Barr of Little Rock, who has been her constant companion, caregiver, and best friend for the last few years, never leaving her side as her health declined.
Funeral services will be 1:30pm, Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. There will be no formal visitation.
