Shelton Wright Carter, age 88, a lifetime resident of Arkadelphia, died Thursday, October 1, 2015. He was born September 27, 1927 the son of William Barnard Carter and Sarah Elizabeth Wright Carter. He retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 32 years of employment, and was the owner-operator of Carter Wrecking. He was a lifetime member of Mt Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty Joyce Ashley Carter; his brother Milton Carter; sister-in-laws Betty Jane Carter and Sarah Smith; brothers-in-law Wilson Tucker ,Harold Smith, Lee Sweet, and George H. Carter; three nephews Steven Carter, David Carter, and Larry Tucker.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Carter McMaster, and Susie Carter Shehane (Bob) three grandchildren, Chris McMaster (Andrea), Cody Shehane (Katie), and Kristin Shehane; three great grandchildren Copeland and Mabry McMaster, and Caleb Shehane; three sisters Mary Katherine Tucker, Laverne Sweet, and Joyce Gallant (J.C.); two sisters-in-law Margaret Carter, and Billie Sue Simonis . He leaves many extended family members and a myriad of friends.
He was a gentle giant, hard working loving husband and father. He was always willing to lend a helping hand any time and anywhere he was needed.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday until service time at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.. Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 3rd at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Ray Franklin and Jim Polk officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia under the direction of Ruggles - Wilcox Funeral Home.
