Shelia Beckwith

Shelia Joan Beckwith, lovingly known as Granny, was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, James Beckwith; parents, Louis Denver and Jesse Cornelius (Sloan) Hecke; brothers: Junior, Walter, Earl Wayne, Billy, Bobby, and Roy Hecke; and sisters: Dee Charlotte and Shirley Dee. She is survived by her 3 loving children: Ron Beckwith, Mike Beckwith, and Karen Long along with their spouses, Elizabeth, Donna and Rick; and her sister, Diana Hawthorn. Joan was blessed with 5 adoring grandchildren: Rikki Walker, Ron Beckwith Jr., Jesse Long, Jennifer Webb, and Lauren Campbell. In addition, God also blessed her with 7 great grandchildren: Zane Long, Luke Webb, Kennedy Campbell, Savannah Long, Maxwell Walker, Caroline Webb and Lynden Campbell. Joan was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on October 17, 1936. She had 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Joan married a young sailor, James Beckwith in Key West, Florida on November 8, 1957. A year later they welcomed their son Ron and from there Mike and Karen. Each born in a different state. As a Navy wife Joan spent her time raising her children and holding down the fort. They lived a good portion of James’ 20 year career in Chula Vista, California. The family came back each year to Arkansas to vacation, but after James’ retirement from the Navy they came to Arkansas once again and remained here. Many will have stories to tell of her generous heart and her great sense of humor. Joan was always ready for an adventure, even to her dying day. All you had to do was mention going somewhere and she was ready. She loved her family with all her heart. She will be missed dearly but we are grateful for the time we did have with her. Rest in peace dear granny until we see you again.
