Sat Brooks, age 87, of Mount Ida, died Saturday, December 17, 2011. He was born on April 2, 1924 in Benton, the son of Bryan Brooks and Anna Crenshaw Brooks. On December 23, 1943, he was married to Thelma Brooks who preceded him in death on October 27, 2000. He retired after 35 years of service with General Telephone, now Verizon and was a United States Army veteran of World War II. A member of Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida, he loved singing and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Quartet. He is survived by two sons, Troy Brooks and his wife, Bonnie Jean, of Lubbock, Texas and Robert Montgomery, Sr. and his wife, Connie, of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Cortez Baxley of Springtown, Texas and Freda Bates and her husband, Steve, of Mount Ida; a special friend, Wilma Tedford of Mount Ida; eight grandchildren, Gary Baxley, Debbie Collinsworth, Robert Montgomery, Jr., Kimberly Gentry, Dawn Bly and her husband, Michael, Lora Brashear and her husband, J. D., Tammy Perkins and Melissa Behr; 26 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Faye Green of Bauxite and Bennie Thomas of Benton. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Faith Tabernacle with Bro. Paul Burke and Bro. Dwaine Duck officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Faith Tabernacle. Interment will be in the Joplin Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Rodger Bates, Michael Bly, Derek Hackney, James Keenom, Jeff Borrows, Jeff Mullenix, Frank Green and Gerald Ray. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
