Sarah Bell George Bratcher age 87 of Garner went to be with the Lord February 9, 2024. She was born on August 7, 1936, in Savannah, Tennessee to Ray and Etter Harbin Hurley. Sarah was a member of the McRae First Baptist Church since 1967. She was the retired owner of Cut and Curl Beauty Shop.
Sarah was the first woman Mayor of McRae. During her term she secured a Grant to hire the first daytime Police Officer in McRae. The Radio Station BUFFS called McRae “Sarah City.” She would go to nursing homes to sing; she was an artist and she loved to do ceramics. Sarah was a member of Rackensac Folk Music Society.
Sarah is survived by her husband of 29 years, Gene Bratcher of Garner; one daughter Betty (Kenneth) Childress of Cabot; one stepson Brian (Christy) Bratcher of Beebe; three grandchildren, Heather Gutierrez of Crestview, Florida, Justin (Alex) Bratcher of McRae and Haley Bratcher of Beebe; 2 great grandchildren, Keevy Gutierrez and Joel Bratcher.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Etter Hurley; her first husband, Henderson George, Jr. and sister, Martha Nell Wilson.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of McRae, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Beebe. Arrangements by Smith Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W Dewitt Henry Drive, Beebe, Arkansas.
