Samuel (Sam) Milton Crow - dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend – went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 11, 2023. He passed away in peaceful sleep at a local hospice facility in Central Arkansas.
Sam was born to Ira and Virgie Crow in Little Rock, Arkansas on March 13, 1942. He graduated from Joe T. Robinson High School in 1960 before joining the United States Navy in November 1961. Sam spent 2-years in the Navy, stationed in various places within the United States and overseas. He would often speak about time spent in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and the US Navy base in Rota, Spain. Sam was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1963. Sam returned to Little Rock and began his life exploring a variety of opportunities, surrounded by friends and family. Sam began what was a long and prosperous career as a well-known Taxidermist in the Mid-South region of the States, winning several awards and accolades during his 20+ year career. There was a time in Arkansas, if one spoke about getting a trophy deer, duck or fish mounted, one would naturally think of Sam’s Taxidermy and Sam Crow.
Through the years, Sam enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved all types of recreational sports and was hands-on in coaching, teaching, and helping his two sons excel in a variety of sporting activities from childhood through young adulthood. Sam could be found at the ballpark, the football field, or the basketball gym on any given weekend with family and friends cheering on all the community kids to victory on game day.
Later in life, Sam spent much of his time in North Central Arkansas diving into his passion of hunting. He was a true “mountain man” who loved spending time at Jimmy Creek Hunting Club in Stone County, Arkansas. He had a passion, and some would say an obsession, with cultivating the hunting club into an oasis for all sorts of wild game. He took great pride in developing the property and would explain to anybody who wanted to listen, what he was doing and how it would benefit the hunting atmosphere for all hunting club members.
Being a grandpa (or, better known as Gramps) came naturally to Sam. His grandkids loved to listen to his stories, accompany Gramps on hunting trips at the hunting club and play and pull on his iconic gray beard, that he kept throughout his lifetime.
Sam is survived by his two sons, Michael (Mike) Brian Crow and Randall (Randy) Allen Crow, their children Tyler Crow, Tanner Crow, Madison Crow, Brandi Carr and Sandra Crow. Mike and Randy’s spouses, Jona Crow and Edith Meszaros Crow. Grand kids Jackson Crow, Lane Crow, and Gabe Bissland. And special partner Ola Jean Wilson and former wife Cherie Gifford Crow.
A memorial service visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home at 8801 Knoedl Ct, Little Rock Arkansas (just across from Henderson Junior High School). A “Celebration of Life” funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 17 at Highland Valley United Methodist Church, 15524 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock.
The family would like to pass on a special thank you to Kindred Hospice Care and Nurse Shelly who were instrumental with care in the later stages of his life.
Memorial donations can be made in the name of Samuel Milton Crow to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org/donatetoday.
