Sam White, age 73, of Newhope, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019. He was born on August 12, 1946 in Arkadelphia, the son of Alvin Jasper White and Bobbie Winona Nance White. He was preceded in death by his parents. On January 19, 1968, he was married to Brenda Halcomb. Sam recently retired after over 50 years in the timber industry. He worked in many areas from buying timber for Weyerhaeuser and Bean Lumber to driving a log truck. A member of the Buffalo Gap Masonic Lodge #484, Sam was known across the state. In 1991, he served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas. He was a member and deacon of Mount Joy Free Will Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors, traveling and being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Brenda White of Newhope; his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Cory Mikel of Russellville; his son, Terry White of Fort Smith; three grandsons, Jeremy White, Kyle White and Logan White; two granddaughters, Madison Mikel and Emma Mikel; his sister, Mary Kirk of Texarkana; and his nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 4, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Raymond Dees officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment and Masonic rites will be held at Mount Joy Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Markham, Ricky Markham, Gene Simmons, Gary Simmons, Jason Whisenhunt and Rodney Whisenhunt. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
