Salvacion Silverio Catague passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the age of 80. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her beautiful smile and gentle nature touched everybody she met.
She was born in Negros Occidental, Philippines on July 6, 1929, to Mauricio and Celadonia Silverio Catague, the second youngest of seven children. She worked tirelessly to support her family, raising two daughters and running her own coffee shop in the Philippines.
In 1982, she emigrated to the United States to live with her daughter, Maria and grandchildren. She became a naturalized citizen in 1985. She was a huge help to the household, always cooking or cleaning. She once told her daughter, Maria, "I don't have much to offer but my love and care for you and your family." In addition to raising her grandchildren, she also worked part time to support her relatives in the Philippines. Despite her small income, she would give her last dime to anyone in need.
Though hardworking, her life was not without play. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, dressing up in stylish outfits for special occasions, working out, listening to the latest pop music and watching her favorite soap opera, "Young and the Restless." She was also an active member of Friendship International and made lasting friendships with people of different cultures.
She is survived by her brother, Rodolfo, of the Philippines; daughters, Maria Buen (Romulo) of Little Rock and Marissa Tavera (Eduardo) of the Philippines; grandchildren, Kristina Buen of Chicago, Mary Tanner (Bryan) of Alexander, R. B. Buen and Randy Buen, both of Little Rock, Katherine (Joaquin) Acebuque of Sacramento, California, and Angelique Tavera, Edmar Tavera, Jr. and Melanie Tavera, all of the Philippines; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Mallory Tanner of Alexander and Artas Araneta of the Philippines.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joe Pevahouse, the Little Rock Dialysis Center, Good Shepherd Rehab Nursing Center and Baptist Medical Center 9B staff who gave her excellent care.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Richard Zawadzki.
