Ruth Elsa Marcovitz (Reitz) Schaff, 94, entered into Glory January 16, 2008, due to complications following a fractured hip. She was born December 9, 1913 in Buffalo, New York to Elsa Neuman and Samuel C. Marcott, graduating from East High School with one year of post-graduate study at Fostdick-Masten Park High School.
She loved the Lord, first and foremost and had a great passion for music, both of which she passed on to her children. She wrote poetry and was an avid reader before she lost her sight.
She spent her first 89 years in Buffalo, New York, moving to Little Rock in 2003 to be near her family. She served as president of the PTA of School #53, was a past-president of the Chromatic Club of Buffalo, was a former member of Trinity Old Lutheran Church, Winchester Community Church, and was a loved Sunday School teacher and Girl Scout leader. She was a former resident of Andover Retirement Center in Little Rock and most recently, a resident at Good Shepherd Ecumenical Center.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and David Marcott; her first husband, Howard T. Reitz; her second husband, George Schaff and one step-daughter, Diane Schnitzer.
She is survived by her two children, Howard D. Reitz, Sr. (Chaska) of Minneapolis and daughter, Judith D. Harris of Little Rock; three stepsons, David (Laura), John (Robbie), both of Depew, New York and Bobby (Janet) Schaff of North Carolina; one sister, Esther M. Montag of San Diego, California; one brother, Robert J. Marcott of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; three nieces and special friend, Dr. John Peters of Hope, Arkansas.
A Service of Remembrance will take place at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock at 2:00 p.m. today, Friday, January 18.
