Ruth M. Lemley, age 94, of Bryant, formerly of Russellville, died Monday, March 1, 2010 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was born in Russellville, Arkansas on August 15, 1915 to Will V. Taylor and Letha Ann Scott Taylor. She attended the public schools of Russellville and played trumpet in the Arkansas Tech marching band for five years, which was through high school and beyond since the high school had no band.
She worked as bookkeeper and office secretary for the Arkansas-Louisiana District Council of the Assemblies of God in 1936 to 1937 after which she went to the National Headquarters of the Assemblies of God and worked in the Foreign Missions Department and then in the Executive Department. It was there that she met her first husband, H. Vane LeMay of North Little Rock, and later in 1942 they were married and she came back to Arkansas to make her home in North Little Rock where she lived for most of the next 50 years and where she raised her family.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God in North Little Rock and was active in the church, Sunday School and Women's Ministries. For some 35 of the 50 years she worked in Little Rock in the Mortgage Banking industry, and was employed by several different companies including Jack Collier East Co. Inc. , Fausett & Co., Wm. E. Terry & Co., TWC Mortgage Co., Commercial National Mortgage Co, and then to the Union National Bank where she helped establish the Real Estate Division for the bank, and from which she officially retired in 1977. However, she did not leave the bank until 1986. After that she worked for five years assisting her son in establishing a new business.
In 1992 she married again to a life-long friend, J. B. Lemley and moved back to Russellville. In Russellville she became active through her husband in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ex-POW organization. She served for 6 years as the Treasurer for the Auxiliary. She was also a member with her husband of the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Scott Taylor, and a sister, Gladys Taylor Stauffacher and her husband's.
She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Hayes Vane LeMay, Jr. and Marian LeMay of Bryant; Ronald T LeMay and Cassie LeMay of Kansas City, Mo., Jon P. LeMay and Carla LeMay of Little Rock, nine grandchildren, Julia Dobbins of Bryant, Erica Peoples and husband Brad Peoples of Bryant; Lance LeMay and wife Shannon of Kansas City, MO, Tiffany Aldridge and husband Claude Aldridge of Kansas City; Matthew, Hannah, Emma and Andrew LeMay of Little Rock; 10 great grandchildren, Jessica and Morgan Dobbins, Chatelain and Jackson Dobbins and Cason Peoples, all of Bryant, Taylor, Lauren, Georgia, Fendley LeMay of Kansas City, MO and Luke Aldridge of Kansas City, MO.
She is also survived by 2 step-sons and their wives, Ed Lemley and Shirley, and Charles Lemley and Pam of Russellville; 6 step grandchildren and their spouses and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2:00PM, Thursday, March 4, 2010 at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rest Hills Cemetery at Little Rock, AR by North Little Rock funeral home. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
