Ruth Marie Cox Jackson, 98, of North Little Rock, died Thursday July 9, 2009 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born in Tacoma, Washington on April 14, 1911, Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Cox. She spent most of her childhood in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was the widow of Ivan Jackson.
She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. In 1933 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She later taught English in Hazen, Arkansas.
After moving to North Little Rock in 1946 she joined Park Hill Baptist Church where she remained an active member until moving to Baton Rouge in 2008. She was a member of the Junior League of North Little Rock, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the University of Arkansas Alumni Association.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Jarboe, of Brevard, North Carolina and Mrs. Suzie Thompson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Winston Norrish of Cle Elum, Washington; Philip Norrish of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Ellen Wolfe of Dallas, Texas; Adam Thompson and Chris Thompson both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mrs. Jackson will be held 11:00 A.M. at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock on Wednesday, July 15th under the direction of North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St. 758-1170. Interment will be at Rest Hills Memorial Park preceding the memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Park Hill Baptist Church, Hospice of Baton Rouge or a favorite charity.
