Rozelle Wordingham Palmer Goodson passed away on February 3, 2012. The wife of the late Dr. Carl Edward Goodson, she was born August 31, 1920. She is survived by daughters Mary Lynn Goodson, Nancy Lea Goodson Mills, Margery Clare Goodson Lumpkin, and Charlotte Rose Goodson; son Dr. Timothy Carl Goodson; fourteen grandchild; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Rozelle attended Ypsilanti State University, where she met and married Raymond Woodrow Palmer in 1941. Palmer passed away in 1942. At that point she began training at the Women's Missionary Training School in Louisville, Kentucky. She met Carl Goodson and they married on May 31, 1944, having become engaged on Leap Day of that year.
She moved with Carl and their growing family to Bolivar, Missouri, where he served as professor in the Bible Department at Southwest Baptist College. In 1961, the couple moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas where he served as a Professor at Ouachita Baptist (then) College. Rozelle continued her education, obtaining both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in English from Ouachita.
Rozelle taught first at L.M. Goza Junior High School and at Henderson State University. In 1968, they moved to St. Louis County, Missouri, where she taught at Parkway Central Junior High School. When Carl was named Dean of Academic Affairs at Ouachita in 1970, they moved back to Arkadelphia, and Rozelle served as assistant director for Financial Aid. She returned to Henderson State University and taught in the English Department. Even after she "retired" from teaching, she continued to teach at a Bible College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Rozelle kept the door open for visitors; always had an extra plate for any guest; and every night was popcorn and game night when family and friends were over. She knitted many a sweater, baked many cookies, and made a Raggedy Andy or Raggedy Ann doll for each grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 10th at Berry Chapel on the Ouachita Baptist University campus in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carl Goodson Endowed Honors Scholarship. Donations can be sent to OBU Box 3754, 410 Ouachita Street, Arkadelphia, AR 71998.
