Royce Edward Henson, 96, died Friday, May 25, 2012, following a lengthy illness.
He leaves his beloved wife of 75 years, Mable (Inman) Henson; brother, Wayne Henson of Oil Trough; sister, LouAnn Ferris of Mayflower; grandchildren, Julianna, Jonathon and Jay of Little Rock and David of Texas; eight great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and countless treasured friends.
Born in 1915 and raised in Scott, the son of Fizer and Delsie Henson, he was a long-time Little Rock resident.
Royce was a member of the South Highland Baptist Church for 55 years where he was a deacon and member of the 39ers Choir. His Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He served his country during World War II as a Petty Officer in the US Navy, stationed in the South Pacific aboard the USS Hector. He retired from Reynolds Metals after 32 years of service.
Following retirement, Royce and Mable enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV and spent several months a year in Florida. He was an avid golfer who shot four holes in one and still played every day until he became ill.
He was preceded in death by his only child, son Gary O'Brien Henson; brothers, Harry, William and Patrick; and sisters, Mildred and Dorothy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 31 at 11:30 a.m., with Brother Don Cooper officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
