Roy Lee Slaughter,81, of Caddo Valley, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at his home.

He was born January 6, 1942, in Amity, Arkansas, to Dean Slaughter and Lorraine Annie Curtis Slaughter.

Roy worked as a resource manager with the Corp of Engineers.  He also spent time working as an insurance agent and for Ouachita River Correctional Unit. 

He served as a song leader for thirty years at Arkadelphia Church of Christ.  He was also a charter member of Two Rivers Blacksmith Club where he mentored many of the club’s members.

Roy enjoyed doing things the old-fashioned way.  He liked using a smoker to smoke meat during the summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Evelyn Bear and his grandson, Josh Slaughter.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara Martin Slaughter; his sons, Dean Slaughter of Arkadelphia and Chad (Trena) Slaughter of Benton, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Megan Hawkins, Bella (Sage) White, Braxton Slaughter and Chloe Slaughter; three great grandchildren; his sister, Nelma (Elton) Porter of Alexander, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to The Hot Springs Hospice Unit for their excellent care.  They would also like to thank Amy Clayton, Don Martin, Dr. Robert Dorman and his staff and members of Arkadelphia Church of Christ.

Roy’s visitation will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Arkadelphia Church of Christ.

Interment will take place at Caney Cemetery near Bismarck, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Braxton Slaughter, Sage White, Mark Bear, Tim Bray, Jarrod Bray and Jamie Martin. 

Honorary pallbearers are Don Martin, Ricky Martin, Marty Allen and members of Two Rivers Blacksmiths Club.

Memorials may be made to The Hot Springs Hospice Food Bank, 4332 Central Avenue, Suite J, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71913.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ruggles Wilcox Funeral Home, 517 Clay Street, Arkadelphia, Arkansas 71923.
