Roy Orvil McWilliams, age 90, of Little Rock, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 5, 2008.
He was born in the Ironton community on June 21, 1917 to Cullen L. and Lucy McWilliams, who preceded him in death. He married Velma Lee Heasley on March 14, 1942 in Little Rock. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in 2001.
Roy was an eight-year Navy veteran of WWII. He worked 41 years for the VA, and retired in March 1982. He enjoyed his family, his land and cattle, gardening, making hay, and fishing. He was a hard worker, honest and true.
Mr. McWilliams was the last of his family. He had two sisters, Faye Kumpe and Bessie Price; and three brothers, Albert McWilliams, Jack McWilliams, and Clyde McWilliams. He and his wife were the parents of four children, Diana and Bob Maulding of Little Rock, Sharon and John Murphy of Cedar Creek, Texas, Alan R. McWilliams of Little Rock, and Robert and Sue McWilliams of Russellville, Arkansas.
Roy and Velma have nine grandchildren, Bonnie Miller of Dale, Texas, Charlotte and Jeff Braneff of Cedar Creek, Texas, James and Misti Murphy of Dale, Texas, William and Christie Murphy of Red Rock, Texas, Harley Murphy of Cedar Creek, Texas, Katherine McWilliams, Hannah McWilliams, and Micah Shinn, all of Russellville, Arkansas, and Silas Shinn of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
They have eight great-grandchildren, Clinton Braneff, Clayton Braneff, Ryan Miller, Kyle Miller, Preston Murphy, Jessica Murphy, Colton Murphy, and Evan Murphy.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Arkansas State Veterans? Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
