Roy Johnson

Roy Johnson, age 90, of Kirby, died Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was born on September 29, 1923 at Kirby, the son of Ruben S. Johnson and Katie Mitchell Johnson. On July 15, 1944, he was married to Myrtle Maxine Foshee Johnson who preceded him in death on November 20, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother. He was a member and deacon of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to be with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his garden and fishing. He is survived by two children and their spouses, Peggy and Lonnye Hoover of Kirby and Larry and Cheri Johnson of Glenwood; five grandchildren and their spouses, Shane and Kerri Hoover of Kirby, Becky and Chad Smith of Amity, Brandon and April Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana, T. J. Johnson of Pearcy and Sarah and Brenton Holt of Bristol, Florida; eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Abby, Nate, Grant, Emma, Harper, Kora and Wade; his brother, Billy Johnson of Kirby; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Milton Neal of Pineland, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 27, 2014, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Golden and Bro. Billy Kersey officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Jackie Johnson, Randy Johnson, Charlie Fox, Dennis Collins, Mark Collins and Richie Collins.
