Roy J. Jenkins was born to Frankie and Roy Jenkins on April 13, 1955 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Lewis Street Church of Christ until his death. Roy loved reading and studying the Lord’s word.
After graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1973, he attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas on an athletic scholarship in basketball. He graduated from Southwestern Christian College earning an Associate of Science Degree on May 9, 1976. While at Southwestern Christian College, he made the All-CCAC team as a forward during 1974-1975.
For 15 years Roy worked in the industrial services field, specifically as an industrial plant renovation contractor, removing asbestos and completing pipe installation.
As we all know, Roy was an avid sports enthusiast, and especially loved the sport of Basketball. Roy coached his youngest daughter’s basketball team in elementary school, and also was an Assistant Coach for the Arkansas Rebels (Tarheels) AAU team. Roy loved organizing events for his family, and he loved cooking, especially smoking meats and frying whole turkeys. He was an integral part of the 1973 Jacksonville High “Class Get Together” committee and assisted with organizing annual class events. Roy also loved gardening, especially nurturing his banana plants and sharing them with the community. For many years Roy was a caregiver for children and adults, and truly had a passion for helping others in need. It suited his servant heart.
After a good fight with Alzheimers and Dementia, Roy passed away peacefully at home on the morning of May 19th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Jenkins Jr. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 35 years, Lena Jenkins; Mother, Frankie Jenkins; Daughters, Jacobia Bates (Keith), Aaliyah Flemmons, Dr. Nitara Jenkins-Morgan (Calvin); Son, Kaleb Mays; Siblings, Ronnie Jenkins (Renee), Jerome Jenkins, Tonja Harris (Walter), Patricia Jenkins; Grandchildren, Khayriq Flemons, Aaron Carter, Ka’Royn Clay, Aa’Miyah Flemons, Aa’Kiyah Flemons; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Smith Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Court in Little Rock, Arkansas 72205. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday May 29, 2021 at 11:00am at Central Church of Christ, 823 West 6th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201.
