Roy L. Childress, age 96, of Fendley, died Thursday, January 15, 2009. He was born in the Fendley Community, Clark County, on July 15, 1912, the son of the late Thomas Monroe and Emma Thomason Childress. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otha Childress and George T. Childress. He was a WWII veteran. He served in the United states Army Air Force and was a continuous member of the American Legion since 1945. He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for Amity Public Schools. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church; had an abiding faith in God and loved his family.
Survivors include one son, R. David Childress, one daughter Frances Childress, 4 sisters, Pearl Buck of Arkadelphia, Margie Childress of Fendley, Eunice Holder and Nell Wetherington both of Arkadelphia, and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund.
Graveside funeral services will be 2 P.M. Sunday in the Oak Grove Cemetery in the Fendley Community with Rev. Billy Thomason officiating.
