Roy "Darrell" Barker, born on September 4, 1944, in Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on September 10, 2024, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He lived a life defined by hard work, commitment to family, a passion for the pleasures that brought him joy.
Darrell had a distinguished career as the owner of a produce business, a venture he managed alongside his family. He was a member of the Church of Christ alongside his beloved wife of 59 years, Gay Barker. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His time in the military was a cornerstone of his life, instilling in him a sense of discipline and respect that he carried forth in all his endeavors.
His hobbies and interests were varied but deeply meaningful to him. Darrell enjoyed spending time camping with his family, cherishing those memories where bonds grew stronger. He was an avid fan of Arkansas Razorback sports, finding joy in supporting his team. In addition, he had a love for the outdoors, and the fellowship that came with hunting and fishing. His passion for watches, guns, and motorcycles reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and adventure.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Barker; two sons, Eddie Barker and Troy Barker his wife Amanda Barker; grandchildren, Rebecca Freeman, Natalie Barker, and Kelly Barker; siblings, Ronnie Barker (Chris), Garran Barker (Debbie), Rennette Faulkner (Mike), and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Edward Barker and Dollie Marie Barker.
The family would like to thank his hospice team: Dawn, Tori, Kathy and Tammi, at Arkansas Hospice, and Dr. Brandon Duke at St. Vincent North Hospital, for their love, support and care for Mr. Barker.
The visitation for Roy "Darrell" Barker will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home located at 1921 Main St, North Little Rock, Arkansas. A graveside service with military honors will begin at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 16, 2024 at Quattlebaum Cemetery in Bee Branch, AR.
