Rosa Erbland

Rosa Louise Schilling Erbland died Thursday, July 13, 2006, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on July 27, 1925, in Amite, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Daniel Hardy Schilling and Fay Wooten Schilling and sister of the late Fay Ruth Schilling.
Prior to graduating with a B.A. in Journalism from Louisiana State University, she was editor of The Reveille, where she wrote a groundbreaking civil rights editorial and led the paper to an All American Pacemaker Award.
After college she worked as a reporter for the Lake Charles American Press before joining the Baton Rouge State Times/Morning Advocate where, among other assignments, she interviewed the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
While raising her family, she participated in a variety of volunteer activities. She continued to contribute feature articles to the paper and, throughout her life, enjoyed writing poetry and playing and composing piano music. She took great pleasure in her mastery of sewing, often designing her own fashions, and in a variety of other creative crafts.
In the course of her life she was a member of University United Methodist Church, Women in Communications, Inc. and the Deep South Writers and Artists Conference.
In 2000, she moved to Little Rock to be nearer her daughter and continued to fill her life with new friends and new activities.
She is survived by her son Richard A. Erbland, Jr. and his wife Franessa Erbland of Dallas, Texas; her daughter Marcia Louise Erbland and her husband William Bryan Keisler, and two granddaughters, Diane Keisler and Gail Keisler, all of Little Rock.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Little Rock, corner of Markham and Mississippi, on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 6:00 pm., officiated by Rev. Jim Stelzl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
