Roosevelt “Tiger” Shelton, Sr. was born in Holly Grove, Arkansas on March 13, 1942 to the late Jessie Shelton and Carrie Lowery Matthews. He departed this life on December 22, 2020.
Roosevelt confessed a belief in Christ at an early age. He attended Mt. Arratt Baptist Church as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Otto Jones. Roosevelt became a mechanic where he served working on cars for over 60 years and he would tell you in a minute, “I don’t touch foreign cars”. He loved working at the shop with Charles; a lot of times he would be so sick he still wanted to be at Pay & Drive Used Cars. That was his passion.
Roosevelt was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be remembered and dearly missed by not only his family but also those who loved him as “Tig” or “Tiger”.
Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Inez Shelton; two daughters, Zina (Orlando) Neely of Searcy, Tommie Johnson of Bald Knob; two sons, Roosevelt (Debbie) Shelton, Jr. of Wadsworth Ohio and Wade Shelton of Jacksonville; one brother, Ocie Lowery, Sr. of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Clester (Roy) Gaines of Wichita, Kansas, Sarah (Saul) Jones of Wichita Kansas, Verna Shelton of Kansas City, Missouri, and Joyce Shelton Harden of Kansas City, Missouri; five stepchildren; ten grandchildren; twenty step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; thirteen step-great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He also had special people he cherished; brother-in-law William Rycraw; sister-in-law Carmen Juanita Rycraw Wilson, Ross Jefferson, Chris DuBose; two nieces, Vera Glass and Corine Austin; Charles (Debra) Swinson of Pay & Drive Used Cars; and a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents; eighteen brothers; one sister; and his best friend, Kenny Murray.
