Ronald Freeman Carroll

Ronald Freeman Carroll, 69, of Conway, AR passed away November 2, 2022.  Ron was born on December 12, 1952 to James Freeman and Wandalee Carroll in Doniphan, MO.

As a kid, Ron helped his dad on the farm and when he wasn’t working, you could find him on the Current River.  He spent a lot of his childhood swimming, fishing and canoeing the river.  When he wasn’t helping on the farm or at the river, he spent the remainder of his time aggravating his older sister.  There are many stories of all the times he’d jump out from under the bed and grab her leg just to hear her scream.  He usually would get a whippin for it but said it was worth it!

Ron graduated from Doniphan High School.  After graduating, Ron joined the United States Air Force where he spent four years.  He was stationed in San Angelo, TX, Italy and Fort Walton, FL.

When Ron finished his military duty, he returned to Doniphan for a short time before moving to North Little Rock.  He worked for the VA for awhile before finally settling at the United States Postal Service where he would work for 20+ years before retiring.

Ron loved the outdoors and is where you would typically find him.  He grew up hunting with his father and after moving away would return each year to hunt with his dad.  When his daughters were young, he would take all of them hunting.  They never did see anything…he always said the girls were too loud!  But it was a great time because as they “hunted” he could tell them what every tree was, pointed out different wildlife signs and taught them an appreciation for the outdoors.  Ron was a member of TAN Hunting Club where he has hunted for the last 17 years where Ron made lots of memories with friends and family hunting, singing around the campfire, running dogs and watching the Razorbacks!

When hunting season was over, it was time to head to Lake Ouachita where summers were spent fishing, swimming and boating.  Ron and his wife Evelyn spent every anniversary at Lake Ouachita.  In the early years, they would tent camp on an island and later on, they would spend their time at the Stumble Inn in their camper, a little more luxurious and a lot less work then hauling everything and the kitchen sink out to an island.

Ron was always the life of the party and you had to watch him because he was usually up to something!  He loved to play pranks and was super quick witted!

Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 23 years, Evelyn.  He leaves three daughters; Jill Ross (husband Shane), Lindsey McDonald (husband Thomas) and Whitney Freeman (husband Kendric); two step daughters Michele Forbush (husband Mike) and Sherry Jackson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Bailey, Emma, Lily, Dean, Kenlee, Mason, Kacie, Nathaniel, Mark, Ryan, Hailey and Kayla.  Great grandchildren Trent, Savannah, Cash, Faith, Brody, Knox, Amelia and Layla.  He leaves one sister, Brenda Redus and many nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Donnalee.  He also leaves behind many friends who were like family at TAN Hunting Club and the Stumble Inn.

Pallbearers are Darryl Thomas, David Roberson, Keith Green, Kevin Chamberlain, Mark Mahaffey and Ryan Jackson.  Honorary pallbearers Eddy Nordman and David Williams.
