Roland R. Norman

Roland R. Norman, age 78, of Royal, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

He was born on June 10, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of Walter Perry Norman and Zula Mae Avery Norman. On May 12, 1978, he married the love of his life, Linda Hughes. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Christopher S. Rector.

Roland was a Christian in his faith and a member of Center Fork Missionary Baptist Church where he was an assistant Sunday school teacher. He loved bible studies and had taught several over the years.

He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was an architectural designer by trade but also drove a city bus in Hot Springs in later years. Roland loved to plan vacations and would spend several days mapping out the trip and planning things to see along the way.

He enjoyed feeding the deer and birds in the back yard and even put out food at night for the racoons and opossums; he enjoyed watching them all come to eat.

Roland had a love for music especially old gospel songs and could be found singing gospel or country songs. He loved to playing the piano, guitar, dominos, watching movies and making pancakes. Roland was a friend to all and was always helpful and patient, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly miss by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda “Lynn” Norman; four sons, Ronald Norman, Russell Norman, Robert Norman and Gregg Lawson; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Jamie Foster, Susan and Charlie Elmore and Sherry Norman; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Marty Norman; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 19, 2021, with Pastor Scott Bates officiating at Center Fork Missionary Baptist Church.
