Roger William Smith

Roger William Smith, age 71, of Scott, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. He was born on April 2, 1953, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to James and Virginia Smith, who preceded him in death. Roger is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years and 10 months, Dianna Smith, and their four children: Ryan Smith (Cherese), Nicholas Smith (Robin), Matthew Smith (fiancée Jennifer), and Michaela Vlcek (Edward).

Roger was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren: Dakota, Dustin, Ashleigh, Morgan, Aubrey, Maddox, Adley, Ashlyn, Haylee, Eddie, Destiny, and Ethan, as well as two great-grandchildren, Deagan and River. He is also survived by his siblings, Dennis Smith and Linda Spears and many nieces and nephews.

A dedicated family man, Roger’s life was marked by his devotion to loved ones and his unwavering faith. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1971 and went on to work for 39 years with the railroad in Council Bluffs. After retiring, Roger remained active, volunteering every week at the Food Bank while living in Maricopa, Arizona.

He was a longtime member of several Lutheran churches, including St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor, Iowa, Trinity Lutheran Church in Casa Grande, Arizona, and currently Our Savior Lutheran Church in Cabot, Arkansas.

Roger was known for his love of fishing, golfing, traveling, and cherishing moments with family and friends. His generous heart, sense of humor, and kind spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
