After a protracted battle with cancer, Roger Carroll Lacy passed from this earth surrounded by his loving family on October 10, 2018 in Benton, AR at the age of 76. He is survived by the love of his life Rachel (Ellis) Lacy along with his daughter, Victoria Powell (Robert) and son, Michael Lacy (Tracy), grandchildren Lacy Goin (Brandon), John-Michael Powell (Serena), Hunter Lacy, Trey McKim, and Sabrina Lacy and seven great grandchildren all of Benton.
Roger was born on September 22, 1942, to Marion and Thelma Lacy in Fordyce, Arkansas. The third of five children, he and his family resided in Bauxite for many years. He graduated from Bauxite High School and went on to vocational school where he studied auto mechanics. Shortly thereafter he began work as a journeyman machinist at ALCOA where he retired after 38 years.
Roger married Rachel Ellis on January 17, 1964. They spent their 54 years together building a home based on faith in the Lord, trust, sacrifice, and love. In 1990 Roger became a grandfather and began lovingly spoiling his five grandchildren and continued that practice with his seven great grandchildren.
Roger was a hard worker who enjoyed mowing the yard, gardening, camping, his dogs, spending time with and mentoring children. He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months. He served the Lord with brotherly love, kindness and generosity.
As a young boy, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and served Him faithfully. Roger was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church for 52 years where he was a deacon. He faithfully attended until two weeks before his death.
He was a man of good character, an example of strength and dignity, and his family recognized him as blessed. He bestowed blessings on others through his grace and sacrifice. Poppa, as he was called by his grandchildren, was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Roger is survived by his wife and children, as well as sister, Pat Hafner of Cabot, brother, Joe Lacy of Benton, and nieces (Karen, Amy, & Lisa) and nephews (Justin and Will). He was greeted in Heaven by his parents and sisters; Grace Stratton and Deborah Lacy.
A potluck style visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 on Sunday, October 14th at Highland Heights Baptist Church followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 with Bro. Brian Moore officiating. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Highland Heights Mission Outreach. Services entrusted to Smith Funeral Home. Online guestbook can be found at SmithFamilyCares.com
