Rod Nelson, age 74, of Glenwood, died Saturday, September 10, 2011. He was born on August 12, 1937, in Reno, Nevada, the son of Peter Stampe Nelson and Margaret Katherine Nelson. On November 18, 1966, he was married to Charlotte West. Rod was a United States Navy veteran and a retired electrician/electronics technician from General Motors. He attended the Glenwood First Church of the Nazarene. An amateur radio operator, Rod was active in military communications with the MARS and SHARES networks. He also did emergency communications for the Red Cross during natural disasters, as well as the 911 terrorist attack, keeping families informed with relayed messages. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Nelson of Glenwood; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Dixon and her husband, Terry, Cindy Martin and her husband, Dan, and Donna Screen and her husband, Mark, all of Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Janet Fine of Marysville, California, Margrethe Hinckley and her husband, Bill, of Reno, Nevada and Vy Burns and her husband, Tom, of Glenwood. The family will receive visitors at the Glenwood First Church of the Nazarene at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011, with memorial services immediately following at 2:00 PM.
