Robert Eugene (Gene) Mitchell, born March 20, 1914 to the late Charles Jesse and Vinnie Middleton Mitchell in Marked Tree, Arkansas, died January 29, 2007 at McClellan VA Medical Center. He was a retired Law Enforcement Officer, having retired from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office. He was a former Assistant Director of the Alcohol Beverage Department, and was one of the original enforcement officers when it was formed. Gene was an avid sportsman and hunter, belonging to the National Rifle Association for over fifty years. He was a life member of DAV and American Legion, and a veteran of the United States Marines.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Esther Dendy Mitchell; one son, Robert E., Jr. and wife, Teresa of Malvern; two daughters, Kaye Mardis Mitchell and Anita Jean Mitchell of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Charles Raymond Mitchell of San Diego; and one sister, Lucille Hall (Mrs. Joe) of Harrisburg, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1 at Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock, followed by burial with Military Honors in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Family has requested no visitation.
