Robert "Bob" Mark Kirk Sr, 62, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed away, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Robert is survived by his wife Beth Kirk, his children Robert Kirk Jr, Matthew Kirk, and Kathryn Knapp, and their mother Kay Kirk, his mother Mary Kirk, his brother Patrick Kirk, sister Dianne Kirk, sister Michelle Kirk, and his grandchildren Cody, Tristan, Jessica, James, Gavin, Jasmine, and Mason.
Robert was born January 3, 1954 in Lincoln, Illinois to James and Mary Kirk. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972 and University of Kansas in 1984 with a major in communications. Robert Kirk was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He served his country in the United States Navy for twenty honorable years, retiring as a Lieutenant. During his service he was stationed on the USS Bradley, USS Denver, USS Tuscaloosa, USS Chandler, USS George K. McKenzie and ended his career at Fleet Combat Training Center in Point Loma, CA. While stationed in San Diego, CA he enjoyed family camping trips in the Ocotillo Wells. Robert was active in the Boy Scouts of America as an assistant Scout Master and was a member of Order of the Arrow. He had a lifelong fascination with science, especially chemistry and physics. He spent many hours with his family building and launching model rockets and fireworks. As a ham radio operator he loved teaching electronics. Robert was a man loved dearly by friends and family.
A memorial service celebrating Robert's life will be held Friday, September 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville at 10:00. Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation for Research.
