Robert Brearley
Robert "Bob" Joseph Brearley, 80 of Little Rock, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, December 5, 2009. He courageously battled cancer and Parkinson's disease for many years.
Bob was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas on March 5, 1929. In 1946, he graduated from North Little Rock High School, where he excelled academically and at football. He was both All-State and All-Conference. He received a scholarship to The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he was a member of the Razorback football team.
He obtained his Bachelor of Science and Civil Engineering degrees from U.S.C. and a MBA degree from UCLA. He placed a high value on education, and throughout his entire school career he never made below a B. His children are grateful and proud for the many lessons he taught them about determination and hard work.
Bob had a diverse business career. He was a stock broker on Wall Street. He was responsible for overseeing the building and completion of numerous hospitals throughout Arkansas, Texas, and Florida. He gave his all to any endeavor he undertook.
He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Hawaii. He loved his time in the Navy, and taught his children and grandsons love of and pride in country. His son followed his example and served in the U.S. Navy also.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, William Brearley and Helen Martin Brearley; and a sister, Billie Jean Ouellette. He is survived by a son, Robert Jay Brearley of Sheffield, Alabama, and a daughter, Kristen Brearley Wood of Little Rock; and 6 grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th St., Little Rock, AR, 72204.
