Robert W. Ingram, 78, of Little Rock, was called to active duty in God's Army on August 13, 2009. Born January 26, 1931 in Enid, Oklahoma to Chaplain Claude R. and Jennie M. Ingram, he attended elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City in 1949. He entered the Marine Corps Reserve, 20th Infantry Battalion in April, 1947 and was called to active duty in June, 1950 at the outbreak of the Korean Action. He joined the 3rd Battalion's Weapons Company, First Marine Division in July, 1950 and participated in the Inchon Landing on September 15, 1950, and later was wounded, returning to the States at Oakknoll Naval Hospital. Robert retired from Treasurer Island in San Francisco on May 31, 1951 with medical retirement. He was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Additional awards included the United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Korea Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Medal.
Bob was attending the Oklahoma City University when the Korean War started. After being released from the hospital, he attended the University of Oklahoma and then obtained a degree in Accounting from Blackwood College in Oklahoma City. He went to work with Consolidated Gas (OG&E), moving on to APCO Oil Co. as an accountant. He joined Ben McCammon Real Estate as a realtor, and went on to become an area representative for the 3M Company in Oklahoma and Arkansas. In 1983, after retiring from 3M due to a health condition, Bob joined SOS Technoligies of Memphis, Tennessee and remained associated with them until his retirement in 2006. During this time, he also managed a decorative concrete business, GoldenLook of Arkansas.
Bob served his church in the Sound and Light Ministry for 25 years and the bus ministry for a number of years. He was a Life Member of DAV, KWVA, American Legion and the 1st Marine Division Association. He served in various positions with the Military Order Purple Heart and as Commander for a number of years, serving and helping veterans and their families with benefits. He helped develop the "Memorial Certificate" program which is presented to families of veterans who have lost their lives in service to our country.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Fran Soleto Ingram; six children, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his brother, Col. D.C. Ingram (Fran) of Austin, Texas and his sister, Glenna Jean Wallace (John) of Oklahoma City.
Visitation will be Monday, August 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18 at the funeral home, followed by interment with Military Honors at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
