Robert Hughes

Robert Eugene Hughes, age 67, passed away on April 22, 2019 in the loving home of his son and daughter-in-law in Elon, NC after losing his battle with a terminal illness.  Mr. Hughes had five children; sons, Brandon Hughes and Donald Hughes; and daughters, Laura Fuentes, Tiffany Felton and Ashley Phillips. He was "Papaw" to five grandchildren, Dillon Hughes, Caleb and Lillian Felton, Jared and Kylie Phillips.  He is also survived by his brother, Charles Hughes; sister, Terri Lee; nieces, Jessica and Marissa, and nephews; Benny and Marcus. ​

Robert was born on June 9, 1951, in Rayville, Louisiana to Birnis and Lillian Hughes of Mangham, Louisiana.  He joined the Army in 1969 and served his country for three years.  He worked for Travelers Insurance as a claims adjuster until an early retirement where he continued to pursue his dreams of various inventions and side projects.  He was a kind and passionate man who loved his family.  His children and grandchildren were his world.  Robert was a spiritual man who had a strong faith in the Lord and always dreamed about what Heaven was like.  He was very intellectual and a great conversationalist who would share stories and ideas even with a stranger.  He loved the outdoors and always enjoyed rides on his motorcycle taking in the beautiful country scenery.  ​

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Wayne Hughes.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  A visitation will take place from 10:00 - 11:30 AM at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home in Sherwood, AR.  A graveside service will start at 12:00 PM at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery.
