Robert Hudson

Robert Daniel Hudson, Jr., 88, of Maumelle, Arkansas passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012. He was born March 6, 1924 in Tyron, Oklahoma to Robert D. Sr. and Myrtle Shanks Hudson. Robert enlisted as a seaman in the United States Navy in July, 1941, at the age of 17, and rose through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant in 1965. On November 28, 1948, Robert was married to Anita Page Hopper while stationed at Millington, NAS outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Following his retirement from the Navy, Robert returned with his family to Memphis where he was employed in various jobs while attending Memphis State University at night. He obtained a Bachelor of Education Degree Cum Laude in 1971 and began a second career as a teacher in the Memphis Public Schools. While teaching he continued his higher education pursuit at Memphis State and obtained a Master's Degree in Education in 1974. He retired from the Memphis Public Schools in 1986. After this retirement Robert and Anita began traveling throughout the United States in their RV. In 1994 Robert and Anita moved to Maumelle in order to be closer to their daughter, Kay Jacobsen, her husband Conrad, grandson Jeffrey, and granddaughter Melanie. He later greatly enjoyed the company of his great-grandson Matthew. Robert was an exceptionally fine man, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed more than his family can ever express. In accordance with Robert's wishes, his family will celebrate his exemplary life privately. Memorials should be made to the charity of one's choice.
