Robert Hermani

Robert Carl Hermani (Bob), 83, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022. He was born in Baltimore, MD to Robert and Wilhelmina Koehler Hermani on July 22, 1938. The family moved to Hyattsville, MD where he attended Redeemer Lutheran School, played baseball and graduated from Northwest High School in 1956. He furthered his education at Concordia Teacher’s College (now Concordia University-Chicago) in River Forest, IL, where he received a B.S. in Education and met his future wife, Linda. They were married on August 6, 1960 in Fort Smith, AR.

Bob was an educator for forty years. His teaching career began in Providence, RI at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and continued with Lutheran schools in Baltimore, MD, Richmond, VA, and Fort Smith, AR. He enjoyed serving those schools in many capacities: teacher, counselor, basketball coach and principal. Bob’s last twenty years in education were spent in the Adult Education programs in Benton and Sebastian counties, encouraging those students to further their schooling.

Bob was an educator through and through. He loved sharing his faith with those he taught and those with whom he worked. He was involved in the local Lutheran church every place he called home. He enjoyed leading youth Bible studies and counseling the young people while also serving in various congregational leadership positions. Small Group Ministry became a favorite personal ministry, where he would help equip and encourage others to study the Bible so they could share the Good News of Jesus.

Bob was also a true sports enthusiast. He loved baseball and basketball and had so much fun spending time with his family in backyard games of “catch” whether using a baseball, football or Frisbee. Coaching his children’s basketball teams was a heartfelt pleasure, but a quiet time for reading was also a welcome reprieve.

After retiring, Bob and Linda moved to Hot Springs Village, AR. Bob loved the peace and quiet of the Village, rocking on the front porch and sharing treats with the neighborhood dogs. He and Linda loved to go watch their grandchildren participate in various activities and cheer on their sports teams. In 2016, they moved to Little Rock, AR to be closer to family where they have been active members of Christ Little Rock.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda; his son, Jonathan; his daughters, Melinda Ware (Gerald) and Kristin Whitworth (Darren); his grandchildren, Meagan and Katie Whitworth, Hannah, Emily, Sarah and Matthew Ware; his brother, Walter Hermani (Jane); and sister-in-law, Carolyn Fremder (James).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Christ Little Rock Church, 315 South Hughes Street, Little Rock, beginning at 1:00pm, with a Memorial Service following at 2:00pm.
