Robert Doy Hoover, of El Dorado, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
He was born on a cold, winter’s day in McCaskill, Arkansas, the son of Imon Hoover and Willie Belle Flaherty Hoover, who have preceded him in death. On May 17, 1975, he was married to the love of his life, Judy Gray, and they would be each other’s best friend for the next 45 years.
A Vietnam veteran, he served in the United States Army Signal Corp. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in forestry from Arkansas A & M and made forestry his life-long career working for Georgia-Pacific and Deltic Timber Corporation. After retirement, his main hobby was operating his own small sawmill. He was a member of Avery’s Chapel in McCaskill. There was nothing more enjoyable than being with his grandbabies who called him Poppa Doy.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Hoover of El Dorado; three children and their spouses, Amber and Nicholas Bailey of Cabot, Forrest and Brandy Hoover of Pea Ridge and Bradley and Jessica Hoover of Texarkana, Texas; eight grandchildren, Maddie (Jaylee) Kelley, Ethan Linam, Lily Hoover, Brennan Bailey, Caelan Bailey, Laurelyn Bailey, Koy Hoover and Ellisyn Hoover; two great-grandchildren, Payton Kelley and Bailey Kelley; two brothers, Wendell Hoover of McCaskill and Kenny Hoover of Crossett; two sisters, Joy (Ottis) Loe of McCaskill and Nelda Green of Turbeville, South Carolina; and his nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Avery’s Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
