Robert Doyle Covington, 86, of Hickory Plains community, died Thursday, February 10, 2011. He was born November 17, 1924 in Romance, Arkansas to Jessie and Altha (Bill) Covington. He was preceded in death by his wife Orva Druscilla (Jimmie Sue) Covington, one step-daughter, one great-grandson, three brothers, and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila and husband, Tommy Harris, and Robbie and husband, Hansel Veazey, both of Hickory Plains, Arkansas; one son, Shelby and wife, Ronda, Covington of Searcy, Arkansas; one daughter, Beverly and husband, Nelson Bowers, of Cabot, Arkansas; two step-sons, J.C. and Basil Jennings; three brothers; five sisters; twenty grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Robert 'Granddad', one of thirteen children, was a sailor in the U.S. Navy who got in trouble a few times for standing up for what he thought was right. He was a friend, father, brother, husband, uncle, granddad, and was loved by many neighbors young and old. In his younger days, he loved to coon hunt, ride horses, and watch his calves play and graze. In his later years, he loved visiting with his family and friends, retelling all of his coon hunting adventures, and watching his grandchildren grow up.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2011, at Hickory Plains Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Wayne Snider and Bro. Tony Crye officiating. Pallbearers are Brad Covington, Ira Covington, Daren Covington, Richard Luck, Keevin Luck, Haskell Fouse, Keith Covington, Carl Covington and Doyle Fouse. Honorary pallbearers are Dalton Thomas and Wayne Covington. Burial will be in Hickory Plains Cemetery. Memorials may be made Hickory Plains Missionary Baptist Church, P.O.
