Robert Bowers

Robert G. Bowers, age 81, born January 11, 1937, passed away on July 19, 2018. In his early years he was known as, and called, Bobby. A life-long resident of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Bobby was born at home in a little house on Melrose Circle, Argenta (sometimes laughingly called Dogtown). The second child of the late Arnold E. and Daisy Lee Bowers. Robert, now known as Bob, was an engineer and retired as a manager with SWB Telephone Company. After thirty years he chose early retirement and then became a long relief substitute algebra teacher with the North Little Rock School District. At the age of 56 he started his third career by attending Pulaski Tech and becoming a LPN and finished that career at Lakewood Health and Rehabilitation. He considered this to be his most rewarding time of his life - to give aid and comfort to the elderly and dying (he actually spent six of his last eight weeks there as a rehab patient).
Robert served three years in the Navy Reserve before being drafted into the United States Army. He served with the 71st Artillery regiment, spending his last years in the Republic of China in the air defense of Taipei during a 1958 crisis which was hidden from the public. Robert was a proud eleven gallon blood donor, he had a very rare blood type, and was a donor to the neo-natal surgery pheresis program.
A brother Ed predeceased Robert. Survivors are sister, Linda Lou Fletcher; sons, Robert Blake and Brett Leigh Bowers; grandchildren, Taylor Blake Bowers (Taylor Marie) and Tara Denise May (Travis); great-grandchildren, Parker Reese May and Callum Gabriel Bowers.
Robert's cremains will be buried at the Arkansas State Veteran Cemetery in a private ceremony. At the children's request there will be a Wake on Sunday, July 29, 2018 with open-house from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at 5821 N. Cedar St., North Little Rock, Arkansas 72116.
Any remembrance may be made to Pulaski County Humane Society.
