Richard B Young, Sr., age 72, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his bedside, on October 12, 2006. He was born on March 22, 1934 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the son of Otis and Irbie Ault Young. Richard graduated from Hot Springs High School, Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona, and received his Masters from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He was a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church for almost thirty years.
Richard was a high school and college teacher for many years in California's Imperial Valley, where he also taught candidates for American Citizenship. He was a contractor in Little Rock, Arkansas before owning Terry Auto Care. He had an auto repair radio talk show in Little Rock. After retiring, he taught as a substitute teacher in the Bryant and Bauxite School Districts.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Billy and Johnny Otis, Richard is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Trisha; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Dr. Ray Bollen of Malvern, Arkansas; Martha and Keith Greba of Anchorage, Alaska; and Danielle and Steven McMorran of Los Angeles, California; son and daughter-in-law, Richard B Young, II (Rip) and Erika of Boulder, Colorado; and daughter, Robbin Goodroe of Kona, Hawaii. Daddy Rich leaves eight grandchildren, Matthew and Jacob Metzger, Kristal Larios, Sarah and husband, Kent Wiles, Shannon, Daniel and David Bollen, his namesake, Richard B Young, III (Ty) and his expected grandbaby of Danielle and Steven.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, 12400 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas, with Brother Dave Hughey officiating. The family thanks the staff at Baptist Medical Center and Doctors Ray Bollen, Hugh Burnett, David Smith and Pulmonology Associates for their expert care and loving kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church Building Fund.
