Richard Stafford

Richard "Walter" Stafford, age 68, of Sherwood, passed away November 11, 2012 in Sherwood, Arkansas. He was born on February 20, 1944, the 9th of 10 children of the late James and Verda Stafford.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carole Stafford of Sherwood; daughters, Shirley Robinson (Charles) of Trenton, Missouri, Stephanie Dawdy (Derek) of Racine, Wisconsin; son David Stafford (Rachel) of North Little Rock, Arkansas; siblings Winnie Lester of Camden, John Stafford (Jene) of Camden, and Jim Stafford (Mary Elizabeth) of Little Rock; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Siblings that preceded Rich in death were Dianne Stafford, Maude Evelyn Williams, Rebecca Mogle, Gerald Stafford, Edward Stafford and Douglas Stafford.

Rich served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and earned numerous honors. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and became a lifelong Razorback fan. He served as Director of Accounting for the Pulaski County Special Schools and worked for the district for 36 years. He was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock where he served as a leader in the Royal Rangers ministry as well as an usher. Rich's hobbies included running marathons, playing church softball, and working outside in the yard and on cars.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at North Little Rock Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Loy and Randy Jumper officiating. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with military honors at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home, 1921 Main, 758-1170.
