Richard Joseph Lock, age 89, of Glenwood, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
He was born on January 2, 1933, in Old Mystic, Connecticut, the son of Stanley Onese Lock and Emma Mae Merrill Lock. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Richard Donald Lock. On July 18, 1958, he was married to the true love of his life, Audrey Carolyn Pounds.
He was a United States Navy veteran and a faithful member of the Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where he proudly served as Deacon since June 23, 2013. Richard enjoyed being outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and always could not wait every year for hunting season because he loved going to deer camp with his boys, which always turned out to be a very special time for all of them and has provided his sons and grandsons with many lasting memories. He absolutely loved playing dominoes and anytime he could get a game going it pretty much ended with Richard as the reigning champion, he was just that good. He also enjoyed gardening and his family has many fond memories of how he never let anyone come to their home that before they left, he would make sure they left with food in hand, he had a huge giving heart to everyone.
Above all, Richard was a wonderful Christian husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved his wife and family with all his heart, enjoyed spending time with each of them and even up to his final moments was still making sure Carolyn, who he lovingly referred to as “Mom”, was okay, he never worried about himself. While our hearts are breaking to have to let him go, we all take great joy in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior now, no longer suffering and we will see him again someday soon.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lock of Glenwood; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Sonya Lock, Billy and Paula Lock, all of Glenwood and Ben and Angela Lock of Caddo Gap; his daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Arlie Francis of Glenwood; his daughter-in-law, Susan Lock of Glenwood; his nine grandchildren, Ryan Lock, Brant Lock, Adam Lock, Justin Lock, Ethan Lock, Brandon Lock, Josh Francis, Trista Francis and Amanda Derrick; seventeen great-grandchildren; his brother, Gordon Lock of Glenwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Caddo Gap with Bro. Bobby Lock and Bro. Kyle Cowart officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honors Team.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ryan Lock, Brant Lock, Adam Lock, Justin Lock, Ethan Lock, Brandon Lock and Josh Francis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Elite Hospice, especially our special nurses, Chelsey, Julie and Maleah, and his church family.
