Richard Joe Gallagher I passed away Wednesday morning, November 6, 2013. Richard was born on January 31, 1930 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. He grew up in Little Rock and attended Little Rock High School where he was a drum major for the band. He never lost his love for music and later in life learned to play the banjo and attended many festivals in Mountain View to listen to music on the square. Richard was retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad and had previously worked for the Rock Island Railroad from the age of 15 until they ceased operations. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ella "Dean"; sons, Richard Joe Gallagher II (Connie), John D. Gallagher (Dee), and Matthew Gallagher (Paula); daughters, Maureen Pylant (Barry) and Kathleen Rast (Ron); eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Peaslee and Deamon Gallagher.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Noon on Friday, November 8 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas River Valley Hospice Center in Russellville.
