Rex Cowart, age 88, of Kirby, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023.

He was born on June 25, 1935, in Herford, Texas, the son of Delton M. Cowart and Ennis Brewer Cowart. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Dowdy Cowart; his two brothers, Donnie Cowart and Jerry Mack; and one sister, Patsy Cowart.

December 1967, Rex married the love of his life, Virginia. Rex was a retired Policeman in Harris County, he was very fond of all of his memories while in the policeforce. He was also a proud Marine Corp veteran. Rex was a licensed Embalmer and Funeral Director. After retirement, Rex moved back to his home, Kirby, where he loved to work on his farm, cutting hay, and being in nature. Rex never missed a Texas Rangers baseball game.  He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rex is survived by his his step-daughter and her husband, Terrye and Larry Swink of Edmond, Oklahoma; his two grandchildren, Adam Swink and Amber Contreras both of Edmond, Oklahoma; his four great-grandchildren; his three special cousins, Jean, Keith, and Lisa Duren all of Kirby; his neighbors, Brad and Tamisha Baxter of Kirby; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

 

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, 209 North 3rd St, Glenwood, AR, 71943.
